Testing of welds

Additionally we offer different accredited test methods of destructive tests on resistance spot welds and railway applications (EN 14587-2, EN 14730-1).

Determination of chemical composition of metals and alloys

Chemical composition is analysed mainly during conformity evalution to determine metals and their alloys actual chemical composition more precisely their chemical elements concentration.

Main Fe-based alloys (steel, cast iron), Cu-based alloys (bronze, brass etc.) and Al-based alloys chemical composition is determined usually with AES method. For smaller specimens it is possible to use induction melting device.

SEM-EDS method is used mostly for material microstructure, coatings or smaller specimens.

Surface roughness measurement

Surface roughness measurements. Measurements are performed by contact profilometer, enabling main outputs as Ra, Rz, Rmax, Rp, Rv etc.

Measurement of components

Products and components geometrical and post-process workpieces control. Examples of controlled products:
  • wire strands;
  • reinforcement and prestressed steels;
  • thermal cut details.

Hardness testing

Material hardness testing enables evaluation of heat treatment conformity and, for certain materials, estimation of tensile strength.

Brinell hardness testing is primarily used for soft and medium-hard steels, Vickers for welds and detailed micro-analysis, and Rockwell for hardened steels and aluminum alloys.

Measurements are performed across a wide range of loads and scales (HV 0.01–30, HRA/HRB/HRC, Brinell 1–3000 kgf) according to applicable standards.

Suitable sample geometry, thickness, and surface finish are required for accurate testing.

Mechanical testing

Mechanical destructive testing verifies compliance with standards and determines material properties.

Tests are performed under loads from 0.1–250 kN and at temperatures from −80°C to +650°C using quasi-static or fatigue loading. Tensile strength, yield strength, elongation, and 3D deformation (DIC) can be measured.

Specimens must meet applicable standards and agreed dimensions.

Structural analysis of metals and alloys

Structural analysis of metals and alloys verifies material conformity and evaluates heat treatment quality.

Assessment includes inclusions, grain size, and microstructure. Fracture surface analysis determines fracture type (brittle or ductile) and possible root causes such as overload or corrosion.

Examinations are performed using light optical microscopy (4.7×–1000×) and, when required, SEM (up to 20,000×). Samples are prepared as metallographic cross-sections (hot or cold mounting).

Expertise and consultations

Expert examination determines the causes of component failure, breakage, or wear. It supports dispute resolution and investigation of product or process-related issues, including post-repair failures, production scrap, and material suitability.

Examinations are conducted on customer-provided materials within the laboratory’s competence, and conclusions may not always be definitive.
